The car concept DONDA Foam Vehicle of American rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur Ye, known as Kanye West, might go into production with Tesla after he introduced its concept to the public on social media. On July 5th, Ye posted the image of the car design – uneven, blurred, and coated in black – with the caption that the design was conceptualized, designed, and manufactured in the United States, ending with an ‘Amen.’ As Hypebeast reports, the US manufacturing has allowed room for speculation that the car might go into production with American automotive and energy storage company Tesla.

Ye and Elon Musk have been longtime friends, and Musk even posted a picture of them after Ye stopped by the SpaceX rocket factory (see the post here). In 2018, Ye posted a tweet, expressing how he loved his Tesla and that he was in the future before thanking Musk (see the post here). These are only a couple of public interactions the duo has had in the past, and with the entrance of the foam car design, there is a possibility that Ye and Musk might collaborate to manufacture DONDA Foam Vehicle with Tesla’s technology and features.

The post came as an Official statement from DONDA, the creative production company of Ye named after his mother Donda West, regarding Steven Smith being appointed as Head of DONDA Industrial Design. Based on the Twitter post of the rapper (see the post here), Steven Smith has 27 years of experience in sporting goods, footwear, military electronics, and apparel and fashion design who now steers the company’s direction in these fields. Black seems to be the favorite color of the team and company since Steven has a total-black profile picture on his Instagram and writes his description on his profile as ‘Yeezy Iconic New Balance Reebok Nike and Adidas Design VW Porsche outlaw and lunatic The Godfather of dad shoes. OG Pump Fury designer + vibes only.’ The mysterious style of Ye persists as the rapper deleted all his Instagram posts yet again and has not yet shared the car’s concept on his social media.

Kanye west and Naoto Fukasawa

Before the foam car, Ye also teamed up with Naoto Fukasawa (read more here), Muji’s industrial designer, to recreate McDonald’s packaging, adding the jittery effect that the rapper seems to identify his aesthetics with. Instead of the McDonald’s burger, the print on the box looks like a stuffed sandwich in a tight space with lettuce, tomatoes, and slices of meat. Ye confirmed in a now-deleted Instagram post that he and his team did collaborate with industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa to reimagine McDonald’s packaging. The reception of those who commented on the post then – most of them were Ye’s friends and fans – was generally positive as they expressed their excitement about the possibility of also having a Ye-inspired meal at McDonald’s (a Yeezy meal, as one points out).
