Practically razed to the ground by the 2012 earthquake, the historical Villa La Personala in the province of Modena, Italy, has come to light once more, opening its doors after a renovation with the help of FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti surfaces. The charm and elegance of the Italian ceramics brand (part of Iris Ceramica Group) flourishes the interior walls and floors of the luxurious building with soft grains, colors and stripes.

The recovery of a historical heritage like Villa La Personala was driven by the determination to establish a connection between tradition and modernity, making the villa even more comfortable, worthy of today’s hospitality standards. Proof of this is the choice of technologically advanced and high-performing solutions like the FMG and Iris Ceramica ceramic materials, which ensure lasting beauty of the highest quality. Resistant to thermal shocks, waterproof and fire-proof, non-toxic and ecological, they are easy to sanitize and therefore offer a particularly durable and functional solution.

Set in the countryside near Mirandola (Modena), Villa La Personala and its historical hamlet lie around the Ancient Tower dating back to 1100. For centuries, the Villa belonged to the Personali family, originating from Germany who, crossing the Alps in the second half of the 13th century, settled firstly in Bergamo before moving to Mirandola. Starting from 1472 they lived in the tower with its Ghibelline battlements built in the 12th century, which was later joined by two other buildings.

On 29 May 2012, a terrible earthquake caused the tower to collapse, destroying the interiors of the villa and the surrounding hamlet. In around ten years, the strength and willpower of the Counts Personali-Ferri, whose roots are inextricably linked to the home, drove the major reconstruction works that have returned it to its ancient splendor. The renovation of Villa La Personala aimed to recover the original architectural elements and finishes, along with the structural and anti-seismic consolidation and improvements to ensure energy efficiency.

A place for relaxation and well-being, it has become a multi-purpose hub with spaces intended not only for private events but also cultural and business meetings, conferences and initiatives for enhancing local tourism. After a decade of works, the Villa has been restored and hosts 12 luxury suites, three large meeting rooms, a restaurant and a breakfast room, as well as a lush 10,000sqm park with a modern outdoor swimming pool and a 200-seater marquee.

The renovation works in the Villa therefore brought back to life some specific features of the floors and parts of the walls in various rooms. To cover the interiors of the villa, the ceramic materials of FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti, an Iris Ceramica Group Brand, were chosen. The ground floor is a triumph of the striking Venetian terrazzo Venice Villa, the full-body collection that skillfully combines infinite random flakes and fragments of colored stone and minerals typical of the famous Venetian flooring. In the common areas, including the entrance, staircases, restaurant, breakfast room and lounge areas, Venice Villa Beige and Venice Villa Earth contribute, with their colors and polished finish, recreating the evergreen charm and beauty that once filled these spaces.

Venice Villa can also be found on the wall and floor coverings in the toilet facilities, and in the Sanded version, on the disabled access ramps: the lightly textured, non-slip surface makes them ideal for guaranteeing safety at the entrance. Alongside the Venetian terrazzo, the realism of the stone-effect MaxFine CityStone was chosen; this FMG surface, with its shading and graphic patterns, covers the two connecting meeting and banquet halls, the stairs leading to the upper floors and, in some rooms, the floor and the walls to mid-height.

On the upper floors, the bathrooms in the 12 suites have flourished once more with the large MaxFine marble-effect slabs, used on both the walls and floors – including the showers – and on the vanity tops. MaxFine Calacatta in polished finish, with its white background and soft grains, adds brightness and sophisticated elegance to the spaces, while MaxFine Travertino, with its soft colors and stripes, embraces the rooms with refined intimacy.
