reconfiguring common yard brooms into a versatile coatrack
The Broom coatrack by Clark Bardsley Design repurposes the common yard broom into a functional and unconventional design piece. Composed of five hardware store brooms sourced from Raven Products in New Zealand, the coatrack reconfigures these everyday objects to create a versatile structure. The angled broom heads form an arched base, while the upright handles offer various heights for hanging coats and accessories. The inverted bristles at the base serve as a practical boot cleaner, integrating dual functionality into the design.

Material contrasts are highlighted in the coatrack’s construction by Clark Bardsley Design Studio. Indonesian Arenga fiber bristles are paired with New Zealand southern beech timber handles, the handles’ orange plastic caps are retained for their utility in hanging garments. The result is a functional design that reinterprets familiar components into a sculptural structure, combining utility and aesthetic appeal for a playful entryway.
