berlin-based product designer fabien dumas — founder of too many designers — has realized ‘babel’, a pendant lamp for slovenian lighting company vertigo bird. the piece is drawn directly from the biblical story of the tower of babel: in which a structure is built in attempt to reach heaven. the effort is thwarted by god by confusing the languages of its builders so that they can no longer communicate.

‘babel’ is a visual representation of the tale. each shade is movable, allowing the user to easily alter the shape and angle of light. the complete range (35/50/70cm diameter) is available in black washable textile. light is provided by a compact fluorescent bulbs (E27/15W)
