a stylish collection for futurists made from clothing surplus, off-cuts + dead-stock fabrics

self-trained fashion designer siblings erdi and cansu bal have launched the exemplar™ label, reconstructing stylish garments from clothing surplus, off-cuts and dead-stock fabrics. handmade by the brand’s artisans in london, the upcycled collection adopts a trendy style, with its aesthetics reminding of futurists.

instead of sourcing first-use fabrics from a supplier, erdi and cansu bal use excess clothing pieces, off-cuts accumulated from previously cut garments as well as dead-stock fabrics. through this exemplar™ reconstruction process, one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces are produced.‘it’s in our code to assist on scaling down the material waste in this world and to transmit new life into these unused pieces of fabric,’ the designers mention. 

exemplar’s notion on fashion is rooted from an architectural standpoint, viewing the relationship that humans possess with fashion and architecture very much alike, as both provide protection, privacy, comfort and insulation. the exemplar™ garments are essentially extensions of the built environment around them, with the designers are emulating their learnings from architecture and are actualizing it in the fashion realm.
