ethimo presents outdoor extras amid portuguese nature

Outdoor furniture brand Ethimo now takes us across the unspoiled Mediterranean nature of Portugal, its traditions, relaxed lifestyle, and extraordinary architecture. The 2024 catalog collection particularly lands in Comporta, a well-preserved village on the Portuguese coast, overlooking the Parque Natural da Serra da Arrábida. The new furniture line displays designs by AMDL CIRCLE, Studio Adoliniand more, amid the typical ‘huts’ in Comporta, with their straw walls and fine white sand floors overlooking the sea and embraced by lush vegetation, amplifying that unique sensation of ‘dolce vita’ in the open air in time for Milan Design Week 2024.

Cosmo: shading pergola by AMDL circle

The 2024 Ethimo catalog opens with a new section, Outdoor Extras, dedicated to unconventional outdoor living experiences. This section kicks off with Cosmo, a collaboration with Michele de Lucchi / AMDL CIRCLE (see more here). Designed as a modular shading pergola, the bold structure can be used in any season and at any time of day, furnished with lounge and/or dining sets. The sturdy columns are in brushed teak, lending an organic, eco-friendly allure. The roof comprises cast aluminum ‘branches’ that stretch outwards to support the fabric awning. Cosmo incorporates built-in LEDs, ensuring proper evening lighting that reflects on the fabric for a cozier impression. The largest version measures 270 cm in height and provides more than four meters of shade thanks to its 320×320 cm awning.

hut: outdoor Accoya® nest by Marco Lavit

The 2024 Ethimo projects are joined by the iconic Hut, a contemporary nest designed by Italian-French designer and architect Marco Lavit. Enveloped in an Accoya® wood skin, Hut is perfectly suitable for outdoor use; its natural aesthetic is preserved over time despite the weather and elements. Lavit crafted the nest using a series of long ‘stalks’ arranged in a wigwam shape with inserts and details in metal that enclose generous circular seating, which is exceptionally comfortable thanks to its soft cushions. Hut can be moved and adapted without being fixed to the ground. 320cm tall and 300cm in diameter, it can be customized with an elegant curtain that ‘closes’ this nest, allowing the air to filter through while protecting it from direct sunlight.

out-fit: open-air fitness room by Studio Adolini

Jointly with Italian practice Studio Adolini, Ethimo presents Out-Fit as an open-air ‘fitness room’ for exercising the body and relaxing the mind. Measuring 250×250 cm and 280 cm in height and with no mechanical workings, the structure is made entirely in teak and rust-finish metal and comes with a series of equipment for floor exercises. Echoing gyms from the past with reworked design and materials, it has a punchbag and the classic bench made of leather for outdoor use, wooden rings, an elastic band, and a mat. From terraces to gardens, parks to pools, or even the beach, its functional design and compact configuration make it perfect for private homes or, as a ‘plus’ in exclusive spas, luxury suites, or in the gardens of top resorts.

phil: open-air kitchen by Gordon Guillaumier

Completing the catalog is Phil, created with product designer Gordon Guillaumier, which introduces Ethimo’s first cooking experience in the open air. The cylindrical design squeezes all the main kitchen activities into a tight ergonomic space – spanning 98 cm in height and 75 cm in diameter – in three possible configurations: sink, induction hob, and barbecue. These either metal Olive Green or Sepia Black ‘round islands’ can co-exist with their different functions, creating circular movement and activities, or be used independently. The sink, complete with a handy work surface/top in teak, is fitted with fixed feet. The two cooking options, meanwhile, are fitted with cables and include wheels for easy transport from one spot to the next. With Phil, Ethimo and Gordon Guillaumier create a concept that is the perfect balance of freedom and formality.
