ESKYIU PLAYKITS is a transformable exhibition that interacts with participants

designed by ESKYIU, the PLAYKITS space in hong kong showcases an intensive transformable two-week exhibition where the space, content and form change daily. the concept uses play as the key inspiration of the design and as the main theme for the series of events. consequently, the show urges society to rethink the notion of play, to work playfully, and to play serious.

to challenge the convention of static retrospective exhibition, ESKYIU PLAYKITS takes form as a transformable interactive exhibition that combines a series of events that are dynamic, challenging, and performative. the playful, dynamic form of the objects resemble that of a children toy kits and the transformable nature of the design turns the exhibition into a playful space that changes everyday. the surfaces found at the exhibition are made from NIKE grind — a sustainable material — that result in objects that accommodate the functions of the different programs.

‘architecture is the art of crafting a space into a place – making places that will hold memories, generate interactions, and inspire impossible possibilities. this special retrospective show is not a conventional one, as it looks to the past to shape the future, and also ultimately to celebrate the people and larger community of diverse and dynamic city,’ comments ESKYIU co-founders marisa yiu and eric schuldenfrei. ‘the designed objects to the surfaces are currently reconstituted and will be donated to create a legacy site for a local school, the musical experiments will inform new music collaboration in the cultural public space, and the dialogues will be built into a future publication revealing the work behind and projections ahead on the role of placemaking today. we are excited to see design as a dynamic and collaborative process to inform better and more sustainable work in the future for our city and beyond.’
