wroclaw-based architecture and design studio znamy sie, brings new life to abandoned isothermal refrigerated semi-trailers, transforming them into hotel rooms on wheels. ‘good spot’ marks the first mobile hotel chain in poland that aims to offer a unique off-grid experience to its visitors, bringing them closer to nature.

‘the idea was born during a kitesurfing trip to hel (a polish city), where it is crucial to follow a good wind. what if the hotel room could move around? if it could stay in places offering the best conditions and closeness to nature?’ said the designers.all images courtesy of znamy sie

upcycling isothermal refrigerated semi-trailers to MOBILE HOTEL

huge amounts of disused isothermal refrigerated semi-trailers are imported to poland. this was the starting point of znamy sie (found here), which decided to revitalize them, giving them a second life. the designers clad the outside with stainless steel — drawing from the iconic steel airstream caravan — while adding a wooded frame to the windows. meanwhile, the openings are not taking a big area of the overall surface, mostly gathering to the small sides of the vehicle to protect the inside from the strong weather conditions.

the interior is dominated by white and wooden finishes, while the camper can accommodate up to four guests as it includes two sleeping areas. based on a typical layout for campers and all regular hotel comforts, all functions are located around the perimeter to make the most of the space. custom-built wooden furniture with integrated storage room set around the perimeter, creating a cozy yet functional interior.

the big windows are placed on the sleeping areas on the two ends of the vehicle, allowing plenty of natural light to enter the room. the design includes four types of mobile trailers; the first one has been completed, and the rest three are in production.
