created as part of a collaborative educational program, the three ‘disruption jackets’ are inspired by the difficulties in communication between chinese and israeli students at shenkar college, israel and yale university, the US. the black and white denim is covered with letters and words falling apart.

originally planned as work about china’s punk rock music scene, the israeli students’ project was supposed to be developed in collaboration with yale’s graduate from china. after back-and-forth communication, the students received 6-paragraphs of comments on how they have misinterpreted their collaborator’s research on censorship in modern-day china with attached hyperlinks for further learning.

‘after this surprising reaction, we decided to pivot and explore the idea of miscommunication between cultures around touchy subjects,’ explain the students. ‘thus, we have created many patterns of said quotes from the email to symbolize our experience with breaching cultural borders.’
