throughout our 18 year history, designboom has hosted a wide range of engaging and thought-provoking competitions in collaboration with some of the world’s biggest companies. these creative contests encourage our readers to generate innovative ideas, and broadcast their work to a far-reaching and highly influential audience. participants have the opportunity to have their projects reviewed by some of the most important names in the fields of architecture, art, and design, and even collaborate in programs of mentorship with the most significant players in the global design scene.

designboom is currently welcoming submissions for three different competitions — share your work with the world! read the full criteria for each, as well as the official rules and submission requirements, below. 

LEXUS DESIGN AWARD

launched in 2013 and co-organized by designboom, the LEXUS design award calls on creatives to generate ideas for a better tomorrow, while supporting up-and-coming designers from all over the world. the theme for the LEXUS design award 2018 is ‘CO-‘, a subject which expresses how LEXUS seeks the harmonious coexistence of nature and society through sustainable design. ‘CO-‘ invites creatives to explore their own potential, and that of the environment, by creating new possibilities through collaboration, coordination and connection.

4 prototype winners will each receive a mentorship by an acknowledged professional to develop a prototype of his/her submitted work. additionally, the 4 prototype winners, plus 8 additional panel finalists, will receive a ‘trip prize’ to milan, italy during milan design week to attend the LEXUS design award 2018 exhibition and ceremony, where the awarded projects will be exhibited.

SCHOTT CERAN® DESIGN AWARDS

SCHOTT CERAN® is the german-based world market leader in glass-ceramic cooktop panels. ‘never stop inventing’ is not only the company’s philosophy, but also the way they’re working with and thinking about the material glass-ceramic. the company believes that there are cooking spaces around the SCHOTT CERAN® glass-ceramic cooking panel which are still unexplored, and named them FUSICS – function, urbanism, sustainability, illumination, connectivity and social experience. it’s up to you: design your imagination with glass-ceramic and countless other materials.

SCHOTT CERAN® will award a total of €11,000 in prize money. participation is open to applicants from every country in the world, to professionals, students, and design-enthusiasts.

HIROSAKI APPLE DESIGN AWARD

the city of hirosaki is located in the aomori prefecture of northern japan, and is renowned for its status as the largest producer of apples in the country. in order to promote this unique characteristic, the public is invited to develop creative expressions related to the theme of ‘apple’. the subject can be interpreted through various mediums, including film, graphics, products, space design, and architectural concepts. submissions should express hirosaki’s apple production in novel and innovative ways, and should aim to communicate the essence of ‘apple’ as it relates to the landscape, local life, and city as a whole.

a grand prix prize will be awarded at €6,000, with second prize winning €1,000. participation is open to professionals, students and design enthusiasts from every country in the world, and only to individuals who have reached the age of majority.
