KURADASHI is an exhibition of prototypes where you can buy the objects on display

KURADASHI AT DESIGNART tokyo 2021

in collaboration with crowdfunding service ubgoe, DESIGNART tokyo 2021 presents an exhibition where viewers can buy objects that aren’t even available on the market. curated by japanese designer jin kuramoto, the ‘KURADASHI’ exhibition features a diverse array of works by creators from japan and around the world, including jo nagasaka, fumie shibata, teruhiro yanagiharakazuhiro yamanaka, yusuke seki, daisuke motogi, we+, tomoko azumi, and many more.

KURADASHI is on view at the world kita aoyama building in tokyo until october 31, 2021. designboom was at the exhibition opening to take a look around the items on display.

a rare opportunity to see creators’ initial ideas

described as a ‘creative market’, KURADASHI hosts a rare selection of works, most of which are prototypes. whether they were results of trial and error or treasured works that simply never made it out of the atelier, the pieces give a rare insight into the designers’ creative process.

KURADASHI curator jin kuramoto commented on the importance of prototypes and trial and error, ‘most prototypes are unsuccessful, but there is a 1% correct answer in them. the prototype is a seed of ideas that contain the designer’s will and hopes. so many creators don’t throw them away and keep them in a safe place.’

all the exhibited items are available to purchase online via ubgoe.
