elements appear distorted in london-based designer, david horan’s ‘the ornamental furniture project’. seeking to embrace beauty as function, design decisions were driven by aesthetic choices. the collection includes a desk and chair with over-sized solid pine legs, butting directly to the thin structural plywood top surface. the contrasting feature creates a strong, self contained joint without the need for structure below the surface. the appearance and function of these pieces are therefore inexplicably combined. the top is finished in a fine graphite pigment, and also included is an anodized aluminum side table, with a bold orange gold finish. an ambiguous piece of furniture completes the collection – it can be either a side table or a stool and is made from solid turned pine with a graphite pigment finish.
