coolnvintage reflects coastal comporta vibes with its 'build 87' land rover

coolnvintage, a portuguese studio specializing in vintage land rovers presents its ‘build 87,’ a vibrant and expressive land rover developed in collaboration with the tranquil cabana villa in sublime comporta. the exclusive coastal hotel retreat comprises a collection of rooms and villas which stretch across several buildings including a main house, a guest house, and many villas. sublime comporta is situated upon a seventeen hectare estate and surrounded by a canopy of cork trees and pines, wild sand dunes, and white-sand beaches.

the build 87 was first sketched by restoration house coolnvintage for steve ambort during the summer of 2018 with inspiration by the villa in sublime comporta. the concept of the design was the development of a land rover for the slow-living atmosphere of comporta along with the coastal villa designed by architect josé alberto charrua. while the body and detailing of the build 87 are minimal in form the studio emphasizes a boldness and vibrancy of color. the team at coolnvintage comments: ‘it had to be remarkable. it was meant to create meaningful memories with family and friends. it should be the ultimate design piece for the villa in sublime, comporta.’

steve comments on the project’s relationship to its context: ‘no surprise, the first thing I fell for were the beaches and dunes but more surprising was the simplicity of the area and warmness of the people. I have travelled to most of the beach areas of europe and I was sitting on gale beach feeling as if I was on a beach in brazil rather than europe. it is remarkable to me that comporta wasn’t discovered sooner particularly since it’s just over one hour from lisbon. in my opinion, the simplicity of comporta doesn’t match with a sports car. it is a working village and is still so today after all of the international attention. farming is at the heart of comporta and the alentejo and what better represents that than a land rover.’
