constructed out of a system of stacked cotton reels (spools), the different colored squares represent the thread found on the reel. the design references handmade craft traditions. the simple geometric style is reminiscent of early modernism, yet the color system is generated randomly via a colour picking computer script. pattern foundry http://www.patternfoundry.com

(repeat fill and repeat line) these patterns can be combined as well as superimposed. the single patterns range from simple geometric shapes to more complex organic illustrations. typecuts was founded in 2004 by andrea tinnes to publish and promote her own fonts which are available from this website as well as from primetype. andrea tinnes is also professor of type & typography at burg giebichenstein university of art & design halle, germany.
