each year, dutch invertuals presents a thematic exhibition during milan design week. for 2013, ‘transform’ was the subject at hand, offering a survey of a number of contemporary products which are the outcome of research and experimentation dealing with chemical reactions, explorations in rotation-moulding, investigations of color science and craft techniques–all heightened by a sense of imagination.

‘colour collision’ by kirstie van noort and rogier arents is the result of the dutch designers trials and analysis of how different materials are affected by their particular circumstances and surrounding conditions. in particular, they have focused on the pigment extracted from red cabbage, observing the tonal changes it has when applied to ceramics as a result of pH value modifications in the environment. here, they have applied their fieldwork to produce a series of ceramic tabletops which have been dipped into the colorant, resulting in unprecedented hues and visual contrasts.
