industrial designer christian vivanco has collaborated with casa gutierrez najera gallery to create the ‘las nenas’ collection. three eames chairs, previously used by the mexican government, got reinterpreted to reflect different cultural traditions. ‘the dancer’ reflects the headdresses of guelaguetzna, an annual event that takes place in the city of oaxaca. ‘the mule’ is a comment of the historical use of the animal, as it was the main transportation for miners and farmers as they carried their belongings along roadless regions. ‘the piñata’ is world famous and is used in many traditional celebrations. the chairs will be exhibited to the public from august to november 2011 in querétaro, mexico.
