undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, ’50 shades of grey’ tells the story of an unexplainable and explicit attraction between a young, naive woman, and a very wealthy, experienced man. christian grey’s lavish and extravagant lifestyle is reflected in the clothes he wears, his indulgent hobbies and the incredible penthouse apartment he lives in. the luxurious abode has seen covet lounge and their partner brands design and supply an extensive set of furniture for the film’s set.

just a few days before the film premier on valentine’s day, designboom looks inside the apartment and the furniture that fills it, and talks to the covet lounge team about the unique décor adapted to suit such an extraordinary character.

designs from brands boca do lobo, delightfull, brabbu and koket match perfectly with the main character’s extravagant ways and millionaire taste. each piece was carefully selected to fit its designated environment style — from bold and avant-garde, to organic and feminine. with pieces such as delightfull’s ‘turner’ table and ‘ike’ floor lamp, both from the vintage collection, as well as boca do lobo’s ‘diamond’ sideboard, and eccentric ‘pixel anodised’ cabinet, grey’s apartment has a strong contemporary design influence. brabbu’s ‘sequoia’ center table koket’s ‘burlesque’ console add soft and natural lines to the scheme.

(despite his dark past with the opposite sex) christian grey has a deep understanding of women’s psychology and behavior, which he uses to his advantage, much like koket’s pieces, that seek to deliver a special experience to the women who come in contact with them. and although incredibly hard working, he also knows fun and how to have a good time, reflecting delightfull’s design philosophy.‘
