charlotte kidger creates 19-piece sculptural installation for browns fashion store windows

london-based designer charlotte kidger has transformed the windows at browns fashion’s flagship store in london’s south molten street. led by a hand-on approach to investigating how industrial waste material can be reprocessed and transformed into sculptural and functional objects, kidger’s 19-piece sculptural installation create the perfect pedestal for the iconic accessories from the likes of gucci, saint laurent, valenciana and many more.

‘when the team contacted me to collaborate on a window display, I felt it was a great chance to develop some existing pieces that already fitted the iconic theme,’ comments charlotte kidger on and interview for browns. ‘the corrugated circular forms and broken textured edges have been referred to as greek ruins before, and it’s always something I wanted to push further as a narrative and concept. the project with browns has been one of the most fun yet as the color palette really varies across all six windows.’

for her colorful sculptures, charlotte kidger uses a combination of plastic dust collected as waste from CNC factories in the UK that make 3D plastic models and hand-dyed resin. ‘what’s great is that factories are now seeing their waste as a valuable resource to artists and designers, and they’re beginning to take responsibility for how they can reduce, reuse and recycle their waste streams,’ the designer continues.

inspired by nature’s colors and textures, kidger successfully blends this with industrial forms. the pieces for browns fashion showcase this, with corrugated textures that are highlighted by bright colors. from green to blue, orange and yellow, the 19-piece installation is a feast for the eye.
