cast, blown, and bent glass furniture reimagine swedish glasswork tradition in 'raw industry'

designgalleriet presents ‘raw industry’ by daniel enoksson & david ericsson

on the occasion of the swedish design week 2022, stockholm-based designgalleriet presents ‘raw industry’, a collection of cast, blown, and bent glass furniture by designers daniel enoksson and david ericsson. having previously completed a thorough examination of the most basic archetypes, such as the table and the stool, the swedish creatives have now decided to apply their extensive knowledge to the search for the characteristic appearance of cast glass.

giving swedish casting glass an international character

‘raw industry’ marks designgalleriet’s comeback after a year-long break during the pandemic. ‘with raw industry we can highlight talented creators with exciting solutions. we need more of that in the future,’ says stefan nilsson, the founder of the gallery.

david ericsson and daniel enoksson are considered some of the most established designers in sweden, and have previously primarily worked with furniture in other materials. this time, they have approached a material that is new to both of them – glass. ‘we have been fascinated by the texture of the cast surface in the glass. it makes us think of a windless open sea,’ says ericsson. ‘we have taken on this project to turn the expectations of the swedish casting glass and give it an international character,’ adds enoksson. by casting larger objects with a clearer function, the designers move away from the swedish glass art tradition that was previously associated with the set table and art glass.
