Time passes, and with Casio’s G-SHOCK DW-5600 model, it literally fades away since the watchmaker recreates its iconic timepiece not into watch rings but into limited-edition stationery erasers. 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of G-SHOCK’s release, so Casio wants to thank its loyal fans for having supported the brand and its watches throughout the decades. What better way to celebrate four decades of an iconic watch than by giving them away as stationery erasers? These watches however cannot stand the test of time if the wearer keeps using them since the more they rub out markings from paper or surface, the more they lose sight of time.

How to acquire Casio G-SHOCK watch erasers?

How can fans get their piece of Casio G-SHOCK watch erasers? The watchmaker says that they only need to purchase from a list of eligible watches from the online store, and they will receive the G-SHOCK eraser as a gift for a limited time. The watchmaker is yet to announce its availability worldwide, but its site in Japan is ready to hand out the soft rubber. Casio intentionally opted for erasers among all the objects they could have chosen since they feel that it can be used for practical purposes and not just as a decorative souvenir. Casio prides itself on not using any harmful substances such as lead or Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the G-SHOCK erasers, which for them is a vital decision to make sure fans of all ages can enjoy their gift.

Casio models the G-SHOCK watch eraser after its iconinc DW-5600 which is embedded into the brand’s DNA, making it a recognizable timepiece design. In hopes of making sure that the stationery erasers remain faithful to the recreation, Casio seeks to find a good balance between making the display as real as possible and ensuring that producing them with machinery is not challenging. In the end, Casio is able to maintain around 60 percent of the actual size of the G-SHOCK watch as erasers, even going beyond by making them available in black, the classic color, yellow and red using the original pigments used to produce the real watches.

Alongside the 40-year celebration of G-SHOCK watch, Casio’s team says that another feat and reason of commemoration behind the eraser project is that the shape of the first G-SHOCK model was registered as a three-dimensional trademark by the Japan Patent Office on June 26th, meaning this was the first time that the shape of a wristwatch itself was registered without any logo or text. The watchmaker extends its gratitude to all of its loyal fans who continue to support G-SHOCK and the brand’s other models even after 40 years and hopes that by reproducing the iconic timepiece into limited-edition erasers, wearers and fans can keep a piece of the brand’s DNA as a souvenir…or an everyday marking remover.
