bringing Sustainability to the Table at neocon

New York-based consultancy Standard Issue Design unveils its latest collaboration with Designtex at NeoCon: the Forever Table — a 60-plus-foot-long table made entirely of paper materials. At the annual furniture fair held in Chicago, this year the spotlight is on sustainability.

Designtex has created a showroom that displays a new collection of textiles along a table spanning the length of the exhibition space, constructed using only corrugated cardboard panels, 175 paper tubes (commonly used for bolts of fabric), and zip ties. Remarkably, it is assembled without a single nut, bolt, or drop of glue.

Designtex is a pioneer in sustainable practices, from product design and manufacturing to warehousing and distribution. Reinforcing it mutual core values centered around environmental responsibility, the studio presents Forever Table at NeoCon with Standard Issue Design (more here). Currently the largest paper table in Chicago, it is assembled without any complex fixtures, conceived for easy disassembly. As such, the table’s lifecycle is envisioned to extend well beyond its time at the exhibition.

Assembled without any complex fixtures, the table’s stability and durability are achieved through the principles of truss and space frame design, showcasing the strength and versatility of honest, untreated materials. ‘We are honored to continue our long-standing collaboration with Designtex, marking this as our fifteenth showroom project together,’ shares the team at Standard Issue Design.
