psychedelic colors adorn buzao’s stainless steel furniture collection

for their latest work, chinese studio buzao has explored the process of electroplating to create a series of psychedelically-colored metal furniture. entitled ‘hot’, the collection uses electroplated stainless steel to form pieces that extend from one end of the color spectrum to the other – from extremely hot to extremely cold. comprising of tables, benches, a side table and a display stand, the project results in an array of bold, contemporary designs.

the pieces are designed by buzao in a simple structural formation much like wooden pallets on construction sites and in warehouses. a combination of vertical and horizontal components intersect to form durable and stable structures. in contrast to the simple, industrial metal, the dazzling colors bring the collection to life as the hues fold over the surfaces, appearing almost like a continuous thermal image analysis.

formed in 2017, the design studio takes it’s name from the word ‘buzao’ meaning ‘I don’t know’ in chinese. the moniker has been chosen as a reflection of the designer’s interest in experimentation in unexpected materials and processes, often with unforeseeable results. their philosophy emphasizes the interplay between shapes, light, and environment, challenging the definition of product design by infusing their methods with the uncertainty of the artistic process.
