bodo sperlein creates 'typographic' lighting collection for lobmeyr

london-based designer bodo sperlein has collaborated with austrian glassware brand lobmeyr to create a lighting range. the collection, named script, is inspired by the simple lines within typography, which can be seen in the movement and expression of the lamp arms.

the collection, which will premier at maison & objèt in paris, includes a table lamp, a floor lamp and a wall lamp, as well as several chandeliers. to add to the range, room-filling unique installations of any size are possible within the concept, due to the modular system that can be adapted into a variety of light installations.

the curved arms are available in gold or silver plated finish, together with hemispherical, satin-finished glass domes which sit on flat brass plates. each piece consists of hand-bent brass bands; in a milled groove, the cables are visibly guided as a design element – a tribute to the principles and material characteristics formulated in wiener moderne at the beginning of the 20th century.

‘script’ utilises lobmeyr’s custom made elements, including LED components that can be connected to any home electronics. the lights can also be controlled via a smartphone app and bluetooth.

‘our mutual fascination for uncompromising craftsmanship combined with modern design is what unites us,’ says johannes rath, managing director of the lighting division of the traditional viennese company lobmeyr. the collection will be will debut at paris’ maison et objet fair in september.
