Aesop debuts its first design object with bocci’s 14p

Bocci brings its portable candle-like table light series, 14p, to Aesop’s spaces in Gansevoort and Rockefeller Center, New York, as well as Gastown in Vancouver, Canada. A series of these rechargeable and fully wireless table lights hang from the ceiling or are placed on the countertop, both lighting up the ambient retail interiors of the cosmetics brand. These glass table lights are formed by two hemispheres hardened from molten glass. Their imprecise edges with air bubbles hint at the glassblowers’ work when they manually fill the molds with the liquefied glass.

They’re part of the design’s allure alongside Aesop’s brown colorway, one that Bocci handcrafts for this collaboration. The 14 was the first Bocci product designed by founder Omer Arbel in 2005, originally produced as a pendant light. Soon, he thought of turning them into design pieces, and another way to debut their ever-changing form is to work with Aesop. These table lights with Bocci also mark the cosmetic brand’s first entrance into a design object, and Bocci’s installation is on show at Aesop Gansevoort Street from September 6th, 2024, to August 31st, 2025.

For Aesop, the design studio Bocci spins the cosmetic brand’s signature amber color into a new form. The resulting shade adds an ambient touch to any space and brightens the intensity of the lighting inside it. The air bubbles create a seemingly kaleidoscopic effect on the warm lighting, and they can make these portable table lights look like candles flickering from afar. Glancing at the exterior design, the labor and craftsmanship joining the two poured-glass hemispheres may be a detail that the 14p collection associates itself with.

In Aesop Gansevoort Street, these Bocci glass table lights are set on the countertop, sharing the same glow with the cabinet lighting. In Aesop Rockefeller Center in New York and Aesop Gastown in Vancouver, they hang from the ceiling and by the storefront, creating a sense that the visitors are coming home. Those who want to own a piece of these design objects are more than welcome. Aesop has them on sale in select stores across the USA and Canada, including the shops where Bocci is hosting the installation and display.
