binyeo, a traditional korean hairpin for married women, symbolizes a wife’s fidelity towards her husband and is used to bind a chignon. the pin was believed to gather the pride and spirit of the woman who wore it while offering a means to protect herself from unsolicited advances. yena young designed this pice to honor the victims of japanese sexual slavery for the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the second world war. the piece is available for purchase in the designboom shop, proceeds will be donated to help female victims of war.
