Lycent Design Studio forms flowing interior in china

Lycent Design Studio redefines the concept of spatial margins within the Space Art Gallery residence interior in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. Chief designer Lycent Lai shapes curves, angles, and proportions to transform the once chaotic space into a harmonious billowing space, redefining spatial boundaries. Semi-enclosed walls delineate functional areas while floor-to-ceiling glass allows natural light to highlight soft materials like cotton, linen, and vegetable-tanned leather. Curved lines enhance movement and integrate light and airflow. Black and gray tones contrast with simple beige, subtly defining dining and leisure areas. A sunken sofa lounge, created by load-bearing columns, provides a cozy and tranquil space for relaxation.

fluid forms and balanced textures shape Space Art Gallery

The ground floor of the Space Art Gallery residence features arcs of positive and negative space that define the entrance hall and living room. Four columns create a semi-enclosed living area, connected to the dining room and elevator hall. Concealed gaps allow natural light to permeate the organic surfaces, enhancing the spatial flow. A spiraling staircase, illuminated by sunlight from a skylight, adds to the serene ambiance. On the second floor, the stairs have been relocated to accommodate a spacious master bedroom. Lycent Design Studio employs contrasting color tones between the bedroom and office area, separated by a hinged door, balancing movement and stillness. Dark wood contrasts with light-colored bedding, complemented by artistic paint, natural wood veneer, and natural stone to create a visually balanced environment. Spanning nearly 700 sqm, the basement combines leisure and entertainment functions. Curved walls and columns create imaginary partitions, organizing areas for reading, swimming, and parking around a central space. Water elements add visual interest and create a multisensory experience. By elevating the pool’s height, the designer creates a deep mirror surface that contrasts with the expansive boundaries, highlighting moderation in the space’s design.
