‘bow’ benches and table by benjamin hubert for de la espada
‘bow’ is a system of simple timber (solid ash) frames and surfaces held in tension by a rolled sheet of mild steel. consisting of a ‘bench’, ‘table’ and ‘trestle’ all designed by benjamin hubert for furniture brand de la espada, the metal stratum offers a great strength to weight ratio, as well as economy of materials, in each of the furniture objects.
‘bow’ bench
the ‘bench’ gives suspension to the user and some flex to the seat. the integration between furniture pieces’ steel and timber components have been CNC cut to maintain a fluid integration of the two materials and geometries. these systems have also been designed to be knockdown for cost effective shipping reducing their carbon footprint. the ‘bow’ series has been developed over a period of 12 months after several iterations of prototyping and testing. a curved brace acts as support, the design exuding the look of a bridge in this way
