at the paris fashion week 2021, balenciaga surprised everyone when creative director demna gvasalia showcased his spring/summer 2022 collection through an unexpected episode of the simpsons. in the ten-minute video, the famous fashion brand secured a catwalk debut from homer and marge simpson, as well as their kids bart, lisa and maggie. meanwhile, simpson celebrity characters kim kardashian, kanye west and justin bieber joined anna wintour in the front row.

during this special collaborative episode, the cartoon characters playfully joked about the brand’s bold and pricey designs: marge got stuck in a doorway while wearing a fabulous green dress with oversized shoulder pads, and homer nearly fainted after finding out that the piece costs $19,000. nevertheless, it didn’t take long before both parents enjoyed their runway debut in paris. homer wore sunglasses and a red puffer jacket adorned with the balenciaga signature logo, while marge stole the show, dressed in a dazzling gold dress with a gigantic bow at the back. bart rolled down the runway on his skateboard, in a white t-shirt and leather chaps over his jeans, before lisa and maggie made their appearance, wearing matching red gowns with peplum hems.

the simpsons family wasn’t the only one to take to the catwalk, since the fashion house invited all springfield residents to present the SS22 collection. all-time-favorite characters like chief wiggum, patty and selma bouvier, and smithers appeared on stage, sporting emblematic balenciaga looks, including XXL puffer coats, shouldered gowns, 90s dad-inspired denim jeans, and printed dresses.
