audemars piguet collaborates with marvel on black panther royal oak watch

swiss watch manufacturer audemars piguet has unveiled the black panther royal oak concept — a watch that pays tribute to the marvel comic’s hero. limited to 250 pieces, the timepiece is rooted in the brand’s ancestral craftsmanship, design experimentation and futuristic technology.

2021 marks the beginning of a new collaboration between audemars piguet and marvel, celebrating the family values and seamless blend of traditions and technology embodied by marvel’s super hero. inspired by the black panther’s suit, the audemars piguet x marvel black panther royal oak concept features a sandblasted titanium case complete with satin-brushed and polished titanium inserts. in order to enhance its high-tech design, it also has a satin-brushed and polished black ceramic bezel.

the black panther is present in the dial, rendered in white gold and completely hand-painted. while the suit’s texture has been carved out by laser, the myriad of details adorning the hero’s hands, claws, muscles and facial features have been sculpted by hand. numerous layers of diluted dark paint have been meticulously added by hand to reach the perfect balance of texture, contrast and depth. the contemporary two-tone design of the tourbillon cage matches with the watch’s overall aesthetics, granting the movement a unique 3D effect. the sapphire caseback provides another window onto the watch’s seamless blend of technological advancement and traditional savoir-faire.
