designboom in collaboration with DA – japan design association NPO – promote an international art + design competition.participation is open to applicants from all over the world – from young students to young professionals, and young design-enthusiasts (age 30 and under).free registration required.

01 – the theme of the asia awards contest is

HELLO FUTURE  and/or FESTIVAL

 

HELLO FUTURE – future possibilities of art & designFESTIVAL –  the main theme of this year’s overall event

 

participants age 30 and under, can submit max 3 proposals.

accepted work genres are  :  architecture/interior/product/fashion/textile/photography/WEB/image/marketing/graphics/illustration/art/media arts/crafts/space design/animation/music etc.

02 – asia awards info

 

a comprehensive asian creative award has been established to gather all the young creative and high‑quality professional power from asia and around the world in the centre of tokyo. it aims to become a platform for students and young designers to help them develop their capabilities to excel on the global stage. the international design & art award aims to foster and dispatch young energetic talented designers from all over the world.

03 – awards

 

there are five finalist cash prizes of 2,000 JPY (ca. 2,000 USD each).

 

the winners will have to actually create the projects, products, illustrations etc. the winners should use the cash prize for travel expenses to tokyo and/or for actually making the artwork.

all the 5 finalist works will be exhibited in the TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK 2013 in the central venue (oct. 26th ‑ nov. 4th, 2013) in a the asia award exhibition with other 25 works.

in a second step, in tokyo, 10 finalists will be chosen among the total 30 works for a live-presentation in front of the jury, and 3 final award winners will be chosen to receive a grand and semi-grand prix.

1 grand prix 1,000,000 JPY (ca.  USD 10,000)

2 semi-grand prix  300,000 JPY  (ca. USD 3,000 )

*several additional awards will be granted by sponsoring companies. besides the 30 shortlisted works, 100 honorable mentions will be exhibited. these works will not be included in the second and final review for the ASIA AWARDS winners selection. format for the honorable mentions graphic panel is: W 420mm × L 594mm.

05 – design criteria

it is important that you keep your design(s) confidential until the results of the competition are published.

regarding the concept, there are no particular limitations, but it should relate to one or both themes. the jury will award artworks, designs and concepts which are innovative in terms of their formal aspects as well as their technical and commercial potential.  whatever form of expression you choose please describe it. please don’t send in vague concepts, but go a step further. it’s not the idea which is the art, it’s more the way somebody handles the idea that makes art.

please noteif your entry is shortlisted, we will follow up and request the following exhibition format from you:・3D work (3 dimensional work): flatbed　W 900mm × L 900mm × H (you can choose among these: H 300mm, 600mm, or 900mm)・2D works (2 dimensional work): wall surface W 900mm×H 1800mm.

10 – intellectual property rights

any moral and paternity right regarding the project sent in for application is designer’s property. however by participating in the competition, all participants authorise designboom and DA japan design association to publish and exhibit all the designs (including project data submitted) – waiving compensation – at exhibitions and events and / or to use them for promotional material that the organisers may deem suitable and/or necessary.designers will be fully credited when their work is used.
