the round ‘maria chair’ by mexican studio arquiteknia features concentrically organized panels that fan outwards. the piece was influenced by the image of a traditional mexican woman’s dress, which ruffles in the wind when rotated. the handmade rectangular sections are constructed using solid banak wood, forming elongated arms with fabric woven in between them. the delicate tissue is held together using white glues and lag screws. measuring one meter in diameter, the chair has a steel base structure that is painted black.
