BAJAO Cabin allows travelers to camp anywhere
BAJAO Cabin, an all-in-one tent (and quite literally) on a stand-up paddleboard, offers a one-size-fits-all mobile suggestion to travelers who want to sleep and camp anywhere. Using a tent with inflatable side pipes on a paddleboard, BAJAO Cabin allows wanderers to sleep on top of boulders or a car’s roof, camp on land by the shore, or float on the lake as they nap and rest. In a nutshell, it is an all-in-one tent that uses the traveler’s paddleboard as an air mattress.
The double-walled tent consists of two layers with air pipes that can be strapped onto any paddleboard from a length of 11.6 and thus extend the board as a cabin. The two side pipes make the paddleboard and tent stable on the water and allow campers to anchor and spend the night on the water in areas where camping is not allowed. The tent itself is a compact, 3-meter-long structure that accommodates boards of different widths and lengths.
The inner tent is constructed from a lightweight fabric, woven with mesh, and attached to the airframe. If the weather is clear and sunny, the tent can be used as it is without the outer, or covering, tent, for ventilation. But during rainfall or windy conditions, the waterproof flysheet can clothe the tent. The tent’s pack size is small to make sure that it takes up minimal space on the traveler’s board.

All-in-one tent on a paddleboard for creative camping
BAJAO Cabin is more than just an all-in-one tent. The design team – comprising Christoph Mantz and Julia Görisch – dubs it a versatile camping solution that transforms a paddleboard into an air mattress. This means nomads can camp on various surfaces like rocky terrain, the roof of their vehicle, or even on the water.
To accommodate the height difference between the ground or water and the board’s deck, BAJAO Cabin’s patent-pending airframe comes into play. It consists of two inflatable arches that are connected to the inner tent. These arches, known as side pipes, not only level out the height difference but also provide stability for the board on the water, allowing the all-in-one tent to camp comfortably on calm and shallow waters. The team also states that as of the moment, BAJAO Cabin can accommodate one traveler at a time.
If travelers prefer to camp directly on the ground without the paddleboard, they can easily detach the side pipes and set up the BAJAO Cabin as a traditional trekking tent. In this way, the all-in-one tent functions as a spacious one-person expedition tent, on top of its options to act as a paddleboard or roof tent. As of publishing the story, the team plans to start the delivery of the first batches in 2023.
