alissa volchkova presents poetic liquid series of porcelain vessels

the ‘liquid series’, by artist alissa volchkova, combines notions of industry and poetry to form a diverse collection of porcelain vessels. developed as her thesis project at the royal college of art, the project originates from a personal fascination with the fluid state and aspects of clay material.

an investigation into porcelain’s physicality and outer limits, volchkova’s collection brings together two production processes. a vessel — bowl or plate — is slip cast, then disrupted by random paths created by pouring dyed slip on the piece and allowing it to dry.

anything is possible, colors and bowl combinations form endless abstract variations

the results are uncontrollable, determined by the unpredictability of spontaneous slip movement and kiln firing. once completed, ‘liquid’ pieces are not only functional, but can be stacked into endless variations to create unique, graphical compositions — volchkova’s poetic interpretation. the collection is scheduled for exhibition at the royal college of art’s showRCA 2016 open to the public june 26th to july 3rd, 2016
