Inspired by the power of objects to shape our spaces and encapsulate lasting memories, Mexa Design’s ÁLBUM initiative seeks to redefine home goods, fusing functionality and artistic expression. Bringing together a group of international creators in collaboration with the Guadalajara-based collective, ÁLBUM is backed by a strong industrial heritage, utilizing hybrid manufacturing processes to create scalable products that showcase a timeless aesthetic, while embracing local Mexican character. The collections of tables, chairs, stools, and coat racks also integrates innovative and conscious design solutions through optimizing material useage and utilizing processes that fuse the industrial and the digital.

embracing local mexican character

Conceived by Roots, the sister company of Mexa Design specializing in bespoke industrial manufacturing, ÁLBUM harnesses the decade’s worth of experience of the two companies. Under the creative direction of designer Pedro Arturo Ruiz, the collection has been developed as a resolution for contemporary lifestyles.  Launched during ICFF May 2023 in New York City, ÁLBUM showcased an array of new designs created by Jordi López, Eduardo Altamirano, and Pedro Arturo Ruiz from Mexico. Each collection encapsulates its own distinct theme and design language while adhering to the wider collective’s core principles of craftsmanship and conscious solutions. 

VOLUMEN by Eduardo Altamirano aims to create a bridge between outdoor and indoor furniture that often seem to be in binary typologies, introducing a dining/hallway bench and a stool that also doubles as a side table. With easily components that can easily disassembled, both items are practical to ship and can be securely attached to the ground for use in public settings. TORRES by Pedro Arturo Ruiz embodies totemic proportions to present a series of coat racks designed for both residential and commercial use. Drawing inspiration from the structural language of high voltage towers, these racks become intriguing characters within urban and road landscapes through their verticality and contrasting industrial aesthetics.

Jordi López’s PEINETA pays homage the vernacular Spanish comb of the 18th-century — a traditional symbol of the celebration for the city of Valencia. This collection captures the essence of the city’s Fallas celebration where the comb takes is used abundantly. With PLATAFORMA, Pedro Arturo Ruiz presents a modular shelving system that takes advantage of the structural capabilities of a single material format steel sheet. Through artistic intervention, each level is supported by precisely cut slots, enabling seamless integration of brackets and shelves. The longitudinal bend creates visually captivating metal columns that adapt to various installation areas.
