ambient works’ air quality monitor safeguards your space
ambient one is a portable air quality monitor that helps creatives safeguard their health, wellbeing, and peace of mind while at work. Designed by Ambient Works specifically with makers and creatives in mind, it combines the latest Swiss sensor technology with tailored AI-powered insights to keep an eye out on your space.
With a capability to link air quality data with specific activities occurring in creative spaces, the small device removes the guesswork and covers the full spectrum of air quality. While boosting over four sensors out of its form, it can enable users to pinpoint which materials, processes, and activities contribute most to pollution. By documenting such insights on a clear timeline, makers are equipped with the tools they need to effectively understand and reduce their environmental impact.

Whether from home, in a workshop, or in an office, the creative spaces we work from are almost sacred, and the air we breathe indoor is a silent yet potent catalyst for creative thinking. ‘Have you ever wondered if the 3D printer in your studio is quietly polluting the air you breathe? What about the dusty haze from the latest model making room, or the subtle but potentially harmful emissions from glues and paint?’ questions the team at Ambient Works. ambient one addresses these concerns, bridging the gap between busy creatives and a market that is fragmented and oftentimes challenging to navigate.
Recently launched on Kickstarter and awarded the 2024 Red Dot Award, ambient one was designed by Royal College of Art graduates alongside Maker Spaces and London-based makers — Building Bloqs, Fab.Pub, Marie Tricaud, and Tom Cecil — who assisted in the development process, combining their experience in Air Quality and Internet of Things development. On their experience getting here the co-founders write: ‘You can’t improve what you don’t measure.’ With ambient one, creatives will be able to monitor and record various pollutants in the air they’re breathing while receiving tailored advice on how to minimize toxic particles in their surroundings. ‘Understanding and controlling air quality in creative environments isn’t just about health; it’s about nurturing creativity and boosting productivity, and we have witnessed this first hand,’ they continue.
