the world's first triple split timepiece and a tribute to a legend: a. lange & söhne at SIHH geneva 2018

at this year’s salon international de la haute horlogerie (SIHH) event, german high-end watch manufacturer a. lange & söhne, showcased the brand’s latest timepieces. the event rounds up 35 of the world’s most elite watch brands in geneva.

presenting the ultimate chronograph, a. lange & söhne’s triple split is the first mechanical split-seconds chronograph in the world that allows multi-hour comparative time measurements. additional rattrapante hands on the minute and hour totalisers make it possible to stop lap and reference times of events that last as long as 12 hours. 

the timepiece follows on from the brand’s double split, a split time chronograph released in 2004 with a dual rattrapante function increasing the range for lap-time measurements from 60 seconds to 30 minutes. consisting of 567 parts, the craftsmanship necessary to create the triple split transcens the boundaries of mechanical timekeeping. a glance through the sapphire-crystal back reveals the elaborately finished chronograph movement.

a. lange & söhne also unveiled the 1815, normally a product family but this time a dedicated timepiece to the brand’s founder, walter lange, following his death. the 1815 features a new movement developed by the brand, carrying the special calibre number L1924 referring to lange’s year of birth. the 40.5-millimetre case is made of stainless steel with the single piece featuring a black enamel dial inspired by the design of historic pocket watches with the traditional railway-track minute scale and polished hands. in addition to the unique steel version of the 1815 ‘homage to walter lange’, which is set to go on auction for charity in may, limited editions will be available in yellow, white and pink gold.
