yusuke sakai brings a renewed perspective to how we look at animals. in his ‘skin’ series, the japanese photographer zooms in on the epidermis, fur and plummage of various fauna – including elephants, flamingos, camels and giraffes – offering an up close look at their protective layers. rather than viewing the wildlife as general forms, in the entirety of their scale and movements, he concentrates on capturing the details, presenting only a magnified section of their complexion, revealing the textures and coloring of their figures.
