‘you made that’ by christoph niemann and jon huang

 

to celebrate the 25th birthday of photoshop christoph niemann and jon huang have made the web app ‘you made that‘ which brings the magic of drawing and painting back to its simpler and messier origin.

the app was made for ‘the innovations issue’ of the new york times magazine and features tools such as the salt shaker,  a lemon, tape, string and paint.

‘every time you place an element on the canvas, a short bit of code is generated: a capital letter represents the action (like ‘draw a circle’ or ‘change the color’) and lower-case letters signify the parameters (like ‘at the position x300 y200″ or “to blue’). those strings of characters all feed into the unique URL for your piece of art. when you send a link of your finished painting to friends, they can see your art being created piece by piece as the script runs through the characters of the URL. you can only see the code after sharing the link.’
