japanese pencil artist yota tsukino draws imaginary cityscapes in a retro-futuristic style without leaving a single detail out. in fact, as the inspection gets closer, the most amazing details are revealed, leaving viewers in awe and admiration. as tsukino states, ‘my works express the future we dreamed up in the past.’

the toguro tower, which is one of the artist’s first pieces represents the heisei era, but a closer look reveals store signs and train ticket gates, taking us to the showa-era. the higashiyama university of art was created before the COVID-19 pandemic changed our lives and showcases a contemporary, busy setting. the last work, expo memorial farm, was drawn during the pandemic and depicts the future we’re aiming for, that were city and farm co-exist.

make sure you check out more of the artist’s work at his webpage here.
