yayoi kusama’s long-anticipated ‘one with eternity’ comes at the hirshhorn museum and sculpture garden next month. the exhibition was originally scheduled to open two years ago but unfortunately postponed as the museum closed due to the pandemic. as a tribute to her life and legacy, this petite exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves into her psychedelic, ever-dotted world. ‘one with eternity’ explores the visionary artist’s career through the lens of five of her artworks in the hirshhorn’s collection, including two recently acquired infinity mirror rooms. image ©yayoi kusama

getting lost into two mesmerizing infinity mirror rooms

the two significant new acquisitions by hirshhorn museum — dubbed ‘phalli’s field (1965)’ and ‘my heart is dancing into the universe (2018)’ — create a dazzling spectacle of never-ending space. these stunning rooms are characterized by endless reflections and glowing bulbs, creating the illusion of a boundless universe. along with these hallucinatory rooms, visitors can observe an early painting, sculptures — including pumpkin (2016) and flowers-overcoat (1964) — and photographs of the artist.

kusama’s latest hirshhorn exhibition, ‘infinity mirrors in 2017’, has attracted nearly a million visitors to the D.C. museum, celebrating the largest attendance throughout an exhibition since the museum opened in 1974. the exhibit inspired the social media world, feeding instagrams with her trademark polka dots. unlike the 2017 ticket fever, this spring, free same-day timed passes will be distributed daily at the museum starting at 9:30 am throughout the run of the upcoming exhibition.
