the internationally renowned swiss artist and sound architect zimoun, and german artist david scheidler are part of a duo-exhibition ‘untitled’ at TETEM art space from 04 july – 01 september 2013. the architectural installation by zimoun, consists of 100 cardboard boxes, dc-motors and cotton balls – he creates an interplay between the artificial and organic, with an almost hypnotic effect.

‘zimoun creates complex kinetic sound sculptures by arranging industrially produced parts according to seemingly simple rules. using motors, wires, ventilators, etc.., he creates closed systems that develop their own behavior and rules similarly to artificial creatures. once running, they are left to themselves and go through an indeterminable process of (de)generation. these quasi autonomous creatures exist in an absolutely synthetic sphere of lifeless matter. however, within the precise, determinist systems creative categories suddenly reappear, such as deviation, refusal and transience out of which complex patterns of behavior evolve.’ node10

david scheidler’s installation was influenced by the shape and sound of zimoun’s work, using harmonious drone sounds and a kinetic wall sculpture based on the boxes. both artists are fascinated by mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, industrial objects and technology.

‘david scheidler surpasses common media art by leading us into a new field, a new media art that plays with the ideas of high and low culture by researching the idea of the spectacle through technique. this minimalism in form and the ‘maximalism’ in content connect scheidler’s work to several cultural currents that have dominated european culture in the last decades. he represents to us a new generation of internationally oriented artists who examine, with a special affinity for aesthetics, our cultural behaving and cultural change at large.’ peter sonderen

zimoun and scheidler’s works are always untitled. they interact with the viewer in a direct way, with serene chaos and an unique sensory experience.
