PKM trinity gallery, beijing, china
on now through january 10th, 2012
through mid-january, the PKM trinity gallery in beijing features an exhibition of ten large-scale photographs of german artist thomas demand‘s most recent works. demand’s pieces are photographed paper sculptures that he bases on a mix of existing press images of culturally or politically relevant moments and personal photographs. he creates elaborate large-scale installations for each work, destroying the model after it has been photographed. art critic michael kimmelman notes about demand’s work, ‘the reconstructions were meant to be close to, but never perfectly, realistic so that the gap between truth and fiction would always subtly show.’
