Rob Voerman’s sculptural platform lands in the Netherlands

Take Off, the latest work by Dutch artist Rob Voerman is a sculptural viewing platform located on a hill in Schuytgraaf, a residential neighborhood in Arnhem-South, Netherlands. The installation reflects Voerman’s signature artistic duality, where utopian ideals meet apocalyptic undertones. Designed as a space that is protective and forward-looking, the structure incorporates spacecraft-like forms, inviting visitors to engage with its layered meanings. Offering panoramic views of the surrounding area, Take Off functions as a landmark and a platform for imagination, discussion, and critical reflection.

Every evening, a red light atop the structure blinks for four hours, powered sustainably by a solar panel and battery. This detail adds a futuristic element that resonates with Voerman’s exploration of alternative perspectives and visionary possibilities. The bold architectural design of the platform, featuring oval windows and vibrant glass accents, exemplifies the artist’s style.

take off showcases its spacecraft-like futuristic form

Rob Voerman, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans architectural constructions, sculptures, and staged photography, is renowned for his explorations of societal transformation and resilience. Take Off was commissioned by the Arnhem municipality with additional support from the Mondriaan Foundation and BPD Cultuurfonds and coordinated by Stichting Plaatsmaken. Crafted from durable materials such as aluminum, galvanized steel, and plexiglass, the work integrates into its environment while showcasing its futuristic aesthetic.

Voerman’s work is included in collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the UCLA Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. With Take Off, he continues to expand his exploration of architecture as a creative language, offering a thought-provoking addition to his portfolio that connects community and artistic vision.
