slinkachu sets miniature scenes across dubai’s urban landscape
dubai walls has become the first outdoor urban art show in the united arab emirates, inviting globally renowned street artists to create in public spaces across the region. presented across city walk — an outdoor commercial and cultural complex in the city — UK-based creative slinkachu has added 10 miniature installations to the streets, captivating curious passersby and visitors to the area.
an extension of slinkachu‘s ongoing ‘little people project’ — which sees the remodeling and painting of miniature model train set characters — the installations for dubai walls draw from cultural themes and motifs found the area. placed, photographed and left on the street, the tiny cast of characters forms quirky scenes on the street. a small pile of sand is seemingly the backdrop for an epic desert landscape lined with a caravan of camels; lit matches become the firewood for a flaming campsite; and a toy yacht sinks into a glossy street surface below.
‘the photography aims to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city, almost being lost and overwhelmed,’ the artist describes. ‘but underneath this, there is always some humor. I want people to be able to empathize with the tiny people in my works.’
