there are an estimated 18,000 shooting ranges operating in america today. many of these shooting ranges sell custom targets featuring thugs, terrorists, aliens and zombies. the painfully ironic truth is that the real targets of gun violence aren’t these fictional ‘bad guys’ but rather our real-life friends, neighbors, co-workers and children.

with this evidence as the project’s preface, creative studio banana and associates have produced a series of shooting range posters, each illustrating the black and white portrait of a potentially innocent victim of gun violence, such as a pizza delivery man, a wife and a dog owner. printed beside the images that comprise the ‘innocent targets’ series are staggering facts about guns in america: americans own 70 million dogs and 270 million guns; twice as many women are shot by their husbands than by strangers; there are roughly 60,000 pizzerias in america and 120,000 gun dealerships.

americans produce 75,000 albums each year and 5,500,000 guns

‘innocent targets‘ intends to serve as a reminder of the thousands of lives lost, and to act as a call-to-action to put an end to it. proceeds from the purchased posters go to the coalition to stop gun violence. an exhibition of the series will be presented at protein studios in london from november 12th – november 16th, 2014.
