at an exhibition titled, mixed pickles, in ruttkowski;68 gallery, you’ll find a 2-meter-long NIKE air max shoe made of wood and dressed with oil paint. examine a bit further and you’ll find the artist’s name, paa joe, inscribed above the laces. there isn’t a hole for a foot to slip into. instead, the entire mechanism opens in-half to reveal a nice, blue, resting place

this isn’t paa joe’s first coffin — it isn’t even his first NIKE-shoe-shaped coffin. paa’s idea of a final resting place is the belly of a lion or a fish or a chili pepper. in this case, it’s a shoe that he’s named: ‘ghanaian NIKE coffin.’
