nevercrew sits an astronaut on top of their new delhi street intervention

nevercrew is a swiss based street artist duo founded in 1996 composed by christian rebecchi and pablo togni. in the recent years, their work undertook a research that doesn’t aim at channeling reflections on a precise stylistic and formal way, but rather to find a new language that confronts and at the same time, interacts with public space. this year they have presented ‘see through, see beyond’ at the St+art festival in new delhi. the festival is a two-month long collaborative platform for street artists from india and around the world, that transforms the urban landscape with art interventions in public spaces through murals, installations, performances, workshops, talks, and screenings.

‘see through, see beyond’ consists of a couple of mural paintings linked between them. both of them are realized in mixed technique, with an installation over the top of one of the two walls. the astronaut on top seems to be the connection between the two places. nevercrew comments on their work, ‘in our society structured on the expansion of power and on the conquest of the final product, the origin of things and their history are often out aside. the reasons are confused and mixed over time, diluted up to make it turbid, making past and present less and less readable.’

they continue, ‘in this way, the vision of reality and its understanding as the understanding of its problems, fails. the man finds himself with no history, unable to distinguish the outlines of his surroundings, without memories that make it aware and without reference points that maki it conscious of his actual position.’
