On February 20th, the duo unveiled the resulting phase through PROJECT MONDO G, a recreation of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class with the distinctive puffer jacket of Moncler.

The art piece created by Mercedes-Benz and Moncler combines the renowned Mercedes-Benz off-roader G-Class with the style-defining Moncler puffer jacket. The geometric design of the G-Class and the soft, flowing lines of Moncler’s quilted jackets playfully create a stunning contrast.

Both utilitarian objects embody an unmistakable uniqueness with functionality at their core, evolving into luxury lifestyle items over the previous decades. PROJECT MONDO G encourages viewers to see the development of a formerly pure utilitarian-focused design symbol through the fusing of opposites.

High-gloss reflective puffer jackets on a four-wheel

A closer look at Moncler and Mercedes-benz’s PROJECT MONDO G exposes further distinguishing features that circle back to the original products of the two with the rough patina evident to the eye, referring to functionality and practicality.

This serves as a visual antithesis to the flawless, high-gloss reflective surfaces of the puffer jacket that underpin the luxury claim. The PROJECT MONDO G also closes up through a massive zipper, another purposely eye-catching feature, which is a visual representation of the adaptability and diversity of both items, the car and the jacket.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG, says the collaboration with Moncler inspired its in-house team to create a real sculpture on wheels in a very bold design statement.

‘Based on our design philosophy Sensual Purity, PROJECT MONDO G merges extremely contrasting forms and surfaces: spacecraft shiny materials with a used patina look; strong geometry of the G-Class with organic forms of Moncler puffer jackets,’ he says.

He adds that the two luxury brands offer what they think is a new experience by combining the automotive and fashion worlds, united in one piece. ‘Because of the over-dimensional and exaggerated language of forms it’s polarizing art to set new impulses and trends,’ he says.

The topic ‘Art of Imagination’ is an encouraging message to dream large, to break new ground, to put the unattainable within reach, and to discover without limitations. Moncler’s first automotive collaboration is the collaborative art project PROJECT MONDO G.

Hosted by Moncler during its presentation on February 20th, Mercedes-Benz was lined up with brands and artists, such as Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams, Adidas Originals, FRGMT, Salehe Bembury, Palm Angels, ROC NATION by Jay-Z. Moncler unleashed a new vision for Moncler Genius through an immersive live event at Olympia London, ushering in a platform for co-creation across diverse new industries including art, technology, sport, music, and design.
