in what it seems to be one of the most creative silhouette photography we’ve seen, today we present indian photographer mitesh patil and his extraordinary work. dramatic, mysterious, emotional and somehow moody is what good silhouette pictures are about. in photography, a silhouette is defined as a form that appears dark against a rather bright background and even though this effect can be achieved using any bright light, the most common one is the sun around sunrise or sunset.
all images by mitesh patil
from silhouettes sharing the sun with each other, to ones that play football with it, mitesh patil’s work transforms sunsets into spectacular illusions. the 22-year-old mechanical engineering student from a town near mumbai says that the fact of living near a beach allowed him to capture sunsets since a very young age. at the beginning he would just take images without people, but saw the great storytelling potential of adding human figures and objects and since then he hasn’t stopped.
with over a thousand posts, patil’s instagram account is a feast for the eyes. not only will you see the photographer’s breathtaking creations that will take you to dreamy landscapes, but you will be able to see the magic behind his photography. make sure you go through the picture carousels as some include behind-the-scenes videos where you can see how he uses different props to achieve the perfect image which he then edits with adobe lightroom, enhancing the silhouettes and making the effect even stronger.
‘I love silhouettes taken during a sunset so that’s when I take most of my photos,’ mitesh patil says. ‘I only get a few minutes to get a perfect shot. If I miss the moment then obviously I have to wait until another day.’
