megan geckler has developed a vibrant, rainbow structure, constructed from flagging tape. the installation was commissioned by water bottle company bobble for their presentation at international home and housewares show in chicago, USA. for the semi-private meeting area, the los angeles-based artist hand placed the mass-produced, bright plastic ribbon upon the structure in order to form the cube’s colorful surface.

the installation is comprised of a matte black structure measuring 10 feet x 10 feet x 8 feet covered in 1 inch wide segments of flagging tape in blue, green, yellow, red, pink and periwinkle. these pieces are placed on the frame at 90-degree angles, then individually woven in order to create a plaid-patterned, pixelated compilation of color. when studied from the structure’s interior, the harsh lighting of the warehouse showroom is diffused into a glowing effect and the observer is instead surrounded by a modern stained glass-like shelter.
